FORWARDS at the Swedish Kartdagar Conference: Advancing forest monitoring through remote sensing
On 12 March, the SLU Forest Remote Sensing division hosted a session titled “Monitoring European forests for our common future” at the Swedish Kartdagar conference in Uppsala
With nearly 900 participants, the conference brought together mapping and remote sensing professionals from across Sweden. The session was moderated by FORWARDS coordinator Professor Rubén Valbuena, who highlighted the key role of remote sensing and open data sharing in shaping the future of forest monitoring across Europe. He also highlighted recent progress in the development of the ForestWard Observatory, the flagship tool of the FORWARDS project.
The session featured contributions from SLU researchers alongside experts from the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, fostering exchange and collaboration within the European forest monitoring community.
