FORWARDS at the XV SISEF National Congress and in dialogue with regional stakeholders

The FORWARDS team at the University of Molise (UNIMOL) recently presented project results at the national congress of the Italian Society of Silviculture and Forest Ecology (SISEF). The congress follows a stakeholder workshop the team organised earlier this year to inform climate-smart forestry strategies.

Sharing results at the XV SISEF National Congress

On 22–25 September 2026, the team took part in the XV National Congress of SISEF, hosted by the University of Sassari. The theme was “Mediterranean Forest Systems as Strategic Infrastructures: Science, Management, and Communities for Resilient Territories”. The team presented findings and tools developed within FORWARDS through two posters and one oral presentation:

  • Students’ perceptions of forests and forest management, presented by Serena Antonucci and prepared in collaboration with colleagues from BOKU University.
  • The CSF-Ind app, developed by Concetta Lisella and presented by Giovanni Santopuoli.
  • From theory to practice. A shiny R app for climate-smart forestry assessment, presented by Diana Alfieri. The study, recently published in Environmental Modelling & Software, introduces the Climate-Smart Forestry Assessment Tool (CSF-AT), a web-based application for assessing forest climate-smartness.

The congress was an opportunity to share FORWARDS results with the scientific community and to exchange views on forest monitoring, climate adaptation and forest management.

Engaging stakeholders in Campobasso and Alto Molise

Earlier this year, on 11–12 June 2026, the UNIMOL team, together with colleagues from WP3 and WP4, organised the workshop “Climate-Smart Forestry Scenarios: Regional Initiatives to Promote Forest Resilience” in Campobasso and Alto Molise. Stakeholders shared their views and contributions on forest management. The aim was to promote forest resilience and to inform the development of climate-smart forestry strategies at European level.

Together, the two events show how FORWARDS combines scientific exchange with direct dialogue with the people who manage and depend on forests, with the shared goal of building more resilient forests.
