FORWARDS Featured at the Upcoming EEA/JRC LULUCF Workshop
FORWARDS will participate in the upcoming EEA/JRC LULUCF Workshop, organised by the European Environment Agency and the Joint Research Centre, taking place on 27–28 May in hybrid format at the EEA headquarters in Copenhagen.
The workshop will bring together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from across Europe to discuss key developments in the LULUCF (Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry) sector, with a focus on greenhouse gas inventory reporting, methodological improvements for emissions and removals estimation, forest modelling, and science–policy interactions.
During the event, Rubén Valbuena, Coordinator of FORWARDS, will highlight the project’s role in strengthening forest monitoring and resilience across Europe, while Gert-Jan Nabuurs from WENR will join the discussion on European-scale forest modelling approaches.
Key topics of the workshop will include:
- The state of LULUCF greenhouse gas inventory reporting and related policy implementation
- Advancing higher-tier methodologies for soils, wetlands, peatlands, and trees outside forests
- Forest land modelling and the impacts of natural disturbances
- Methodological links between bioeconomy and LULUCF
FORWARDS’ participation in the workshop further underlines the project’s active role in supporting the European dialogue on forest monitoring, climate adaptation, and sustainable land-use policy.
