Workshop: Discover and test the ForestWard Observatory
This hybrid workshop, taking place in Brussels on 5 June for EU Green Week, invites policy experts, public administrators, and forest management practitioners to test and co-design a prototype forest monitoring and evaluation platform.
Towards an Observatory for resilient forests in Europe
5 June, Brussels
Forests and society can transform, mitigate and adapt to climate-induced changes. However, this requires suitable forest management practices based on timely and reliable information. The ForestWard Observatory aims to provide a pan-European tool to assess and visualise the resilience of European forests under different climate change projections and to support climate-smart forestry (CSF) through open data and open-source technologies.
This hybrid workshop, organised as part of the FORWARDS project, invites policy experts, public administrators, and forest management practitioners to test and co-design a prototype forest monitoring and evaluation platform.
The workshop is divided into three parts. First, introductory presentations will briefly explain the aims and scope of the FORWARDS project, the needs and expectations of potential users, and the functionalities of the ForestWard Observatory. Secondly, participants will be invited to test the platform and provide feedback on its usability, data requirements and potential applications. This will help to shape the Observatory into a collaborative, user-driven resource for the forestry community. Thirdly, a facilitated dialogue will explore the policy relevance and potential uptake of the Observatory at different decision-making levels.
