Launch of climate impact forest monitoring pilot projects
The inauguration of the first project financed by the FORWARDS calls for grants
The FORWARDS project proudly announces the launch of its first projects under the “Pilots of Long-Term Climate Impact Forest Monitoring Sites” grant call, which officially kicked off on June 10, 2024. This initiative marks a significant step in understanding and mitigating climate change impacts on forests.
The kick-off meeting opened with an introduction to FORWARDS and its mission to enhance forest resilience and sustainability. Attendees engaged in discussions about the diverse approaches of the newly funded projects, highlighting various strategies to monitor long-term climate effects on forests across multiple regions.
The event fostered a collaborative environment for researchers, promoting the exchange of ideas and methodologies. A closed session followed, addressing administrative and reporting requirements essential for the projects’ success.
Other projects that were selected for funding from the FORWARDS calls for grants are the following:
- CSFagus4EST, Institute of Lowland Forestry and Environment, Novi Sad, Serbia
- iSINK, Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania
- MIXFOR, Department of Geosciences and natural resource management, University of Copenhagen, Denmark
- MONIMEO, Centro de Investigación Ecológica y Aplicaciones Forestales, Barcelona Spain
- VARCLIREFOR, Universiteit Utrecht, Utrecht, Netherlands
FORWARDS is dedicated to advancing knowledge on climate impacts on forests and developing strategies for resilience. We look forward to the insights these projects will bring and encourage everyone to stay informed and involved.
